Work Choice Customers

Who is Work Choice for?

Work Choice helps people with disabilities or long term health conditions whose needs cannot be met through other work programmes, Access to Work or workplace adjustments. This might be because you need more specialised support to find employment or keep a job once you have started work.

It will focus on helping you achieve your full potential and moving towards being more independent.

You must be at least 16 years or over.

Work Choice can offer you the support and advice you need to overcome any barriers you may face to finding and staying in work.

Barriers to employment:

What support will I get?

You will have your own Adviser who can offer you support to:

You can also talk to our Welfare Benefits Adviser to make sure you know what's happening with your benefits.

What type of job can I do with Work Choice support?

There are no limits to the type of work that you can do. Your Adviser will support you to find a job that is right for you. The job must simply:

How long does Work Choice last?

Known as ‘module 1’, we will work with you for 6-9months, supporting you to find employment.  This will involve your attendance at job search sessions which will include CV building, interview techniques, searching and applying for jobs.

If after this time we have been unable to secure you a job we encourage customers to see their Disability Employment Advisor (DEA) who will discuss the next step with you.

When you get a job, known as being in ‘module 2’, your Adviser will give you and your employer support.  This support involves reviewing your progress regularly as well as giving advice on workplace adjustments, training, job coaching etc.

During this time your Adviser will assist you towards being more independent, once you and your employer feel you are confident, and with agreement, we will work with you to progress you off the programme and to continue your employment without our support.

If after 2 years of being in employment you are not ready to progress, you will be in ‘module 3’.  This means you require longer term support in your job and remain on Work Choice.
